Are you futureproofed?

I know you are currently in it. Right now, in the moment, and you probably have a mile-long to-do-list that is keeping you bogged down and in the past. But when was the last time you thought about the future? And more importantly, when was the last time you thought about the future of your brand. 

Did you know there are people that think only about the future of things, of brands? They are called futurists. I am not making this up. Futurists look at trends (of the present and the past) to help insulate brands from competition and irrelevancy (in the future). 

I want to be a futurist. 

Good thing I am a futurist. And so are you. You, as the keeper of your brand, act as a futurist everyday. You analyze what to do, when to do it and how to do it based on your experience and what’s in the market. The only difference is, you don’t have the time to pontificate on the future from what you learned from the past, and do something about it. 

A futurist (or a futurist-mindset) is the fuel to your planning. A brand strategy shop can do this planning with you. Not for you, but with you. Here’s what can be revealed and the questions that need to be asked:

  • What is your competition up to? Do they have the edge over you?

  • How can you use what you know about your customers to position your brand? What are the new insights that have revealed themselves?

  • Has something happened in the industry or even in consumer experience that is making your customers behave differently? How have you shifted your brand to take this in?

  • How can you differentiate your brand against the competition? Is it a benefit you deliver? Do you have reasons-to-believe or proof points that make you better?

  • Do you have a plan to tell the story of how you’re different, how you’ve re-positioned your brand? How are you going to tell this story visually?
